Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present a new limited series of five unique sculptures by Tyrrell Winston, titled Cornucopia. Drawing from memories of growing up in California in the 1990s, Winston recalls the ever-present decorative plastic fruit baskets that adorned suburban homes. Known for his basketball wall sculptures that explore embedded history and the abstraction of an object’s past, Winston transforms the fruit basket, an emblem of domestic kitsch, into elegant sculptural forms.
Historically a symbol of abundance and prosperity, the fruit basket is reimagined through the use of worn basketballs, becoming for Winston a metaphor for the abundance and success that these basketballs have provided throughout his career. Through Cornucopia, Winston unites nostalgia and material transformation, elevating a suburban relic into a meditation on value, memory, and meaning.
