Details

Louis Buhl & Co. is proud to announce a print edition with Dallas-based artist Jammie Holmes. His work is a counterpoint to the romantic mythology of Louisiana as a hub of charming hospitality, an idea that has perpetuated in order to hide the deep scars of poverty and racism that have structured life in the state for centuries. Holmes’ work falls somewhere between realistic depiction and raw abstraction, incorporating text, symbols, and objects rendered in an uncut style that mirrors a short transition from memory to canvas.

“This piece is me sitting on the street that raised me. Behind you can see the stained glass windows from a church that was originally there. It is obscured to show my struggle with religion growing up." — Jammie Holmes

This limited edition print is 4-color hand-pulled screenprint on Mohawk Superfine UltraWhite, 160 lb cover. The 30h x 22w in print is deckled, numbered, and signed by the artist.
