Louis Buhl is pleased to release Sunburned Faygo, a new and unique series of works by Davariz Broaden. Influenced by the bold, gestural marks found in Faygo branding, the works draw from memories of childhood summers, family gatherings, holidays, and the everyday presence of Faygo, whose history is intertwined with Detroit. The title also references the reddish-brown tones used in the figures’ skin, evoking warmth, nostalgia, and the traces of time spent outdoors. While remaining rooted in representation, the drawings move toward a less literal visual language, challenging established approaches and embracing a greater sense of freedom within the artist’s evolving practice.
