Louis Buhl & Co. is pleased to present Melting into a Soup of Selves, Basil Kincaid’s first-ever embroidered edition, releasing this Fall. Known for intricate textile works spanning quilting and embroidery, Kincaid often explores the power of action, intention, and the possibility of radical transformation through a spectrum of works that navigate abstract and narrative modalities. The limited edition comprises 10 pieces, each measuring 24 x 18 inches, and comes ready to hang in a white frame.
“I’m in the middle of a physical and spiritual growth spurt, broken down to my core components, reforming. Every time I reach one of these transitional chapters in life, I reflect on memory—each lived experience provides lessons and perspectives that sculpt us. I get this sensation that recalls the caterpillar’s life cycle, but for us we are continually reforming: melting and rebuilding. Within this work I feel the blossoming that comes with that process of becoming. I’m recording the fluidity between mind, body, essential self, and experience.”
