Library Street Collective and Louis Buhl & Co. are pleased to present Kennedy Yanko’s first-ever print edition, SHELTER, produced on the occasion of In an effort to be held, a group exhibition curated by Allison Glenn at the Shepherd. Yanko is a sculptor and installation artist working in found metal and paint skin. Yanko deploys her materials in ways that explore the limitations of optic vision, underlining the opportunities we miss when looking with eyes alone. Her methods reflect a dual abstract expressionist-surrealist approach that centers the seen and unseen factors that affect, contribute to, and moderate human experience.

SHELTER is a stunning, oversized archival pigment print measuring 52h x 36w inches. SHELTER was originally featured in Library Street Collective’s digital exhibition platform SITE, which took place in May of 2020 at the historic State Savings Bank in downtown Detroit. The edition is a still from this exhibition and showcases Yanko’s work against the State Savings Bank, which fell into disuse after decades of the economic, racial and social inequality that was widespread across America, but particularly exploitative and polarizing within Detroit.
