4 Questions with Louis Buhl & Co. collector Dwight Smith

Tell us about the first work of art you ever acquired from Louis Buhl & Co.

I believe my first work of art I purchased from Louis Buhl was by Carlos Rolón from his Fountain of Youth series followed up real closely by Beverly Fishman and her Untitled (Insomnia, Opioid, Addiction, ADHD). Originally I was looking for works that paired well with other works in the collection and ended up finding new favorites that stood out on their own.

Which Louis Buhl & Co. artists would you most like to meet in person?

I would definitely like to meet Beverly Fishman in person! I have so many questions some about her practice some about her past as a professor and many others about the art world in general. 

What Louis Buhl & Co project would be the dream addition to your collection?

Anything you do with Wendy White would be great!!! I love her energy and her message. I’d definitely be on board for new projects by Dubz from day one!

How would you describe your taste in art? what are you most drawn to?

The collection definitely has post-war contemporary flow many of the works have a distinct political or cultural background that can be seen across the collection. I like art that tells a story. I’m drawn to artists that tell their stories visually in ways that I can relate to. It’s totally transactional, energy given, vibes created, and this is how I live with art.
